Mental health services are critical to student wellbeing and the overall health of our communities.

But right now, Arizona has the worst school counselor-to-student ratio in the country.

To address this critical need, Superintendent Hoffman took bold action, working with the legislature and federal government to dedicate tens of millions of dollars to hiring hundreds of school-based mental health support professionals, including school counselors and social workers, across the state.

Thanks to Supt. Hoffman’s work, Arizona dramatically lowered its student-to-counselor ratio by 20%. However, even with this new infusion of school counselors and social workers, Arizona’s student-to-counselor ratio far exceeds the recommended standard.

That’s why Supt. Hoffman will work with legislators from both parties to fill mental health positions across the state, and she will continue to prioritize student mental health and wellbeing.
